Costume Preservation & Design
Wattanak Dance Troupe is dedicated to the preservation, study, and continuation of traditional Cambodian dance costume as an essential expression of cultural identity, artistry, and heritage. Our work honors the intricate craftsmanship, symbolism, and historical significance embedded in classical and folk attire, ensuring these traditions remain vibrant and respectfully maintained.
Through research, restoration, and careful replication, we support the ongoing use of authentic costume forms while also engaging in thoughtful design practices that adapt to contemporary performance needs. Each garment reflects a deep connection to Cambodian aesthetics, storytelling, and ritual meaning, where color, pattern, and adornment carry cultural significance.
Our costume work is supported by collaborative processes that include artists, designers, and cultural practitioners. By training dancers in proper costume care, dressing traditions, and historical context, we help sustain not only the physical garments but also the knowledge systems that accompany them. In doing so, Wattanak Dance Troupe ensures that costume remains a living part of Cambodian performance heritage, bridging past and present through continued practice and reverence.
